Trinket Box

A trinket box or jewelry box is a term for a container that is usually larger than a box, and smaller than a chest, and in the olden days would have been decorated in different ways. These days they are mostly used to hold small items or trinkets and costume jewelry, in past times the trinket box would have been used for keeping important documents and have many other purposes. It would have been decorated in different ways from covered in leather and lined with satin or silk, or it may have been covered in jewels. There were large cabinets which were made for Marie Antoinette, one of which is at Windsor, and another at Versailles are good examples of this.

Trinket Gifts

Trinket boxes were often made in precious materials, such as gold, silver or ivory. In ancient East Asia, caskets often made in wood, china, or covered with silk. Some of these trinket boxes would have been collected.

Nowadays trinket boxes are used by many ladies in the bedroom to hold jewellery and keepsakes. They can be made of glass, metal or be painted plastic, all normally nicely decorated.

Trinket boxes make a great gift for someone as a birthday present or for an anniversary gift or just a token of affection.

Promotional trinket boxes are mass marketed merchandise like pens, key chains, coffee mugs, fridge magnets and note pads customized with company names. Ironically, trinkets aren't considered valuable yet they can prove very valuable in terms of marketing power.

For example, if you receive a complimentary note pad from your neighbourhood retailer and keep it to use for your weekly grocery list, you're constantly seeing his or her name, photo and company name. Though you may not need a retailer any time soon, you may remember that name when you do or when you hear that a friend or family member needs a retailer.
